WESTLAND, Mich., April 21, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Over these past two weekends, the KRONK / ESCOT (Emanuel Steward's Champions of Tomorrow) Boxing Team was in action at the Metro Detroit Golden Gloves, and it was an overwhelming success!

On the 60th year anniversary of Hall of Fame trainer Emanuel Steward winning the National Golden Gloves, with Emanuel's Marie Steward in attendance, this new generation of KRONK amateur boxers won 10 out of 13 matches, and the KRONK / ESCOT Team won a total of Seven Golden Gloves Championships in various age and weight divisions in the ring along with Five uncontested Golden Gloves medals.

KRONK / ESCOT boxer William Myhre, an honor roll student at Detroit's prestigious Renaissance High School; defeated the number one ranked boxer in the country to win the championship his division. Additionally, Jirair "JayBoo" Thompson redeemed his Olympic Qualifier loss by not only winning the Golden Gloves Championship but now also preparing to travel to Philadelphia, PA in a few weeks to compete at the National Golden Gloves tournament. As if that wasn't enough, Jirair also won Outstanding Boxer of the tournament!

To cap off two weeks of accomplishments, the KRONK / ESCOT team won the Overall Team Trophy, the tournament's highest award! This is an accomplishment that hasn't been done at KRONK since before Emanual Steward's passing 10 years ago.

To see the Kronk Boxing team at this level is very exciting says Jeff Styers, Managing Partner of KRONK Boxing and Founder of ESCOT Youth Development Program. Our kids have been training very hard and that hard work has paid off for them, which is one of the attributes we teach in our program.

KRONK/ESCOT Partners With Night Of A Thousand Stars

CLARESSA SHIELDS ANNOUNCES “NIGHT OF A THOUSAND STARS” INITIATIVE TO RECOGNIZE YOUTH IN FLINT & DETROIT AT JUNE 3 EVENT IN DETROIT Undisputed Middleweight Champion Partners With Kronk/ESCOT To Provide 1,000 Tickets for Local Youth Groups To Attend Rematch Against Hanna Gabriels at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit DETROIT – May 18, 2023 – As she prepares to bring big-time boxing back to Detroit on Saturday, June 3, boxing superstar Claressa “G.W.O.A.T” Shields has announced her “Night of a Thousand Stars” initiative that will provide 1,000 tickets to the youth in Detroit and her hometown of Flint to attend her showdown against Hanna Gabriels at Little Caesars Arena.

Shields will be partnering with Kronk Boxing Gym and the Emanuel Steward Champions Of Tomorrow (ESCOT) to provide free tickets to 14 local programs that provide various services for youth in these two cities, programs similar to those that Shields herself participated in as a child, and which helped eventually launch her on the path toward superstardom. “There’s nothing more meaningful than helping the kids,” said Shields. “I want to give hope to the hopeless and help to those less fortunate than me, and let them know I come from the exact same streets that they come from. I want them to know that even though circumstances sometimes look like you can’t make it, keep striving and you will. “I’m a real example to them of how they too can realize their dreams. On June 3, when I fight and win, it will be for them as well as for history.” “We are excited to celebrate and recognize the youth of Detroit in a way that is fitting and impactful.” said Jeff Styers, Managing Partner of Kronk and Founder of Emanuel Steward Champions Of Tomorrow (ESCOT). “The Claressa Shields return to Detroit is an excellent way to accomplish this both for our youth and the city as whole.” Before the main event on fight night, an announcement in the ring will be made and acknowledge the children in attendance. With the arena lighting dimmed, the kids will each hold up a light that will luminate the venue and deliver “one thousand stars”, highlighting the importance of these groups to the community at large.
